Seoraksan
(Korean: 설악산 or 雪嶽山) is the highest mountain in the Taebaek mountain
range in the Gangwon
Province in eastern South Korea, and is known for its extraordinarily steep
rocky landscape. It is located in the Seoraksan National
Park, established in March 1970 near the city of Sokcho. In August 1982 it
was designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The mountain reaches 1,708 m
(5,603 ft). Seoraksan is divided into Naeseorak (‘Inner Seorak’), Oaeseorak
(‘Outer Seorak’), and Namseorak (‘South Seorak’).
