Mount
Martinswand, at an altitude of 1,113 m (3,652 ft), is located in the
municipality of Zirl.
It belongs to the Solstein Group of the Karwendel mountain range,
which is part of the Alps, in North Tyrol. It is made up of chemically very
pure limestone, which tends to become karst, hiding many cavities and caves. According
to the records, the first climbers to reach the top, in 1932, were Hias Auckenthaler
and Hans
Frenademetz. Today many people practice the sport of climbing here.
